YELLOW-THROATED TOUCAN(Species Account Blog #116)

TAXONOMIC TREE:  

  • ORDER: Piciformes – Woodpeckers, Barbets, Toucans and Honeyguides
  • FAMILY: Ramphastidae – Toucans,
  • BINOMIAL NAME: Ramphastos ambiguus

Yellow-throated Toucan is a large, black and yellow toucan most notable for its massive, bicolored bill. It occurs from southeastern Honduras south to western Ecuador. (from Birds of the World)

In Costa Rica we observed Yellow-throated Toucans several times in the lowlands while in the Punta Leona area, Sarapiqui and Arenal areas.
